                               7 Essentials for Surviving

If you’re a new student coming to Vancouver, welcome to one of the chilliest but rainiest places in Canada, it's called Raincouver for a reason. You’ve probably already been spammed with "college must-haves" on TikTok or Amazon lists with 100+ things. But let’s keep it real—you don’t need half of that stuff. Here’s what you actually need for college life in Vancouver:

1. Laptop + Charger (duh):

Don’t overthink this. A basic MacBook or any good Windows laptop will work, as long as it handles Zoom with a camera, Microsoft Office, and whatever learning apps your school uses. Get a laptop sleeve too—it rains a lot here.

2. Notebook + Pens (yes, people still write):

Even if everything’s online, professors still write important stuff on the board from time to time. Keep a simple notebook and some pens handy.

3. Rain Gear:

An umbrella, waterproof backpack, and a good jacket are must to survive in this city. Vancouver rain is sneaky—it’s not heavy, just... always there. You’ll thank yourself later.

4. Transit Pass Holder (Compass Card):

As a student, you’ll probably get a U-Pass or a transit card. Make sure your wallet or phone case can hold the wallet. You’ll use the bus/SkyTrain A LOT.

5. Power Bank:

Trust me, your phone will die during a long day on campus + exploring the city. A small power bank saves you from hunting plugs not getting lost.

6. Reusable Water Bottle & Coffee Mug:

Most schools here are big on sustainability. Refill stations everywhere. Plus, some coffee shops give discounts for bringing your own cup.

7. Basic Kitchen Stuff (if you’re moving out):

Get one plate, one bowl, one spoon, one fork, and a frying pan. That’s it. You’ll eat out a lot anyway.

Final Tip:

Don’t stress. You can buy whatever you forget later. Vancouver’s full of stores like Dollarama, London Drugs, or even Facebook Marketplace for cheap finds.

Keep it light, save your money, and enjoy the city. College life here is more about experiences than things
