Eating Well on a Student Budget

On a Student Budget
Delicious Doesn’t Have to Mean Expensive
Vancouver is one of the most diverse and beautiful cities to live in around the world. However, most of you already know it can also be expensive, especially if you are a student living on a budget and want to try some food. As a student, I realized that finding affordable meals without sacrificing flavour was hard. But the good news is that my team and I have put together some affordable meal options for you to try.Starting with the easy options, Japadog is a food chain offered
in Downtown where you can grab Japanese-style hot dogs for less than $10 for a
quick lunch. Another reliable option is Donair Dude, for around $8-$12, you can
get a wrap packed with meat, veggies and drinks. Perfect for lunch or a late
snack.
If you are a ramen lover, this is the perfect option for you. Classified
as one of the most flavourful and affordable ramen in the city, we have Ramen
Danbo and Jinya. From bowls starting at $12 during happy hour, these restaurants'
portions are known for being big and enough for a meal, making it a good deal.
Now, if you are looking for something more budget-friendly, I recommend
checking the foot courts in neighbourhoods like Metrotown. You will find hidden
gems like Korean and Vietnamese traditional food for 50% less than the cost you
would pay in downtown or tourist places.
For days when you are looking for
something lighter, I recommend downloading the apps of Freshi or A&W. The
reason for this is that they like to offer online coupons to new users. For
instance, these are affordable meals that are quick and accessible for
everyone.
For those who are looking to save even more and do meal prepping,
there are multiple store options for you. Stores like No Frills, Save-On-Foods
or T&T Market have great deals on fresh products and ready-to-eat food,
helping you save hundreds annually.
A saved the best for the end with this
hack, one of my favourite and most affordable apps that has helped me save
thousands in food while eating quality. Its name is Too Good Too Goo, which
lets you buy the leftover meals of the day from local restaurants at discounted
prices. Besides helping you save money on quality food, you are supporting
local businesses in achieving their sustainability goals.
